The Sarnia Historical Society will observe the 100th Anniversary of the armistice that ended the First World War with a special dinner event November 4th, 2018.

Last year a similar dinner event was organized by the Society to observe the 100th anniversary of the Battle of Vimy Ridge, as well as Sarnians who fought and gave their lives for their country. Tickets for this event were in high demand, with seats for last year’s event sold out within the first two weeks tickets were made available.

For a second year in a row, our event is generously being sponsored by TurnerMoore LLP and hosted at the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 62 on Sunday, November 4th, 2018.
We are honoured to have Dr. Sarah Lockyer as the keynote speaker for this year’s dinner. Dr. Lockyer is a forensic anthropologist with the Canadian Department of National Defense serving as the Casualty identification Coordinator.   Sarah and her team in Ottawa have been working for years to identify Canada’s fallen soldiers whose remains are found in unmarked graves in France and Belgium.  Many of these unknown soldiers’ remains date from the Great War.

Society President Ron RealeSmith expressed delight at securing Dr. Lockyer as the keynote speaker for the 2018 TurnerMoore Flanders Fields Dinner.

“Sarah’s work is critically important,” RealeSmith said, “and we want more Canadians to be aware of her team’s patriotic and tireless efforts in identifying our glorious fallen.”
